Medair Training Day

Wednesday 1st October - Lance Weaver and Josie McSherry from DelAgua travelled to visit Medair for a day of training, as part of a week-long conference. 25 WASH and SHELTER representatives attended from Jordan, Haiti, South Sudan, Afghanistan, DR Congo, Madagascar and the Philippines.

The first half of the day was spent covering the theory behind the DelAgua Kit and discussions took place on various chemical parameters that are likely to be important in emergency response and community recovery projects. Lance also spoke about choosing the right equipment for each project with an emphasis on the importance of analysing the cost/benefit.

During the second half of the day attendees were able to gain hands-on experience using the kit and other testing equipment. They were able to practice the sterilisation procedure, membrane filtration and plating samples. They also learnt about the theory behind producing duplicate samples to prove sterilisation was effective and also how to calibrate pH on the Hanna HI-98129 Multiparameter Meter.

At the end of the week the delegates were returning to their in-country posting to continue their projects and they will now be able to train other colleagues on using the DelAgua Kit.
